Members of almost athletes were out in force this weekend, making a splash of purple against the changing autumnal colours, and achieving some fantastic running results.
An unseasonably warm Saturday saw members of Almost Athletes take part in various parkruns both near and far. Mike Bryce travelled to the Forest of Dean parkrun and completed the challenging course to finish 1st in age group, and 6th overall. Closer to home at Cheltenham parkrun, Graeme Stopp completed his 100th parkrun, and achieved a PB of 23:06. A fantastic way to celebrate your 100th parkrun! Mark Stojanov continued with his great running form at Tewkesbury parkrun, achieving his fastest parkrun time of the year. Janine Bennett travelled to Crosby parkrun and ran amongst the 100 iron statues. Representatives from Almost Athletes could also be found at King George V parkrun, Isabel trail parkrun near Stafford, and Thornbury parkrun to name a few!
Sunday saw a return to the normal October weather but this did not put off a strong contingent of runners from competing at the ABP Newport Wales Marathon. First across the finish line for Almost Athletes was Alison Hume, in a time of 03:58:37, to finish 10th in category. Mark Willicott was next in 04:11:47 and then Allan Green in 04:51:14. In the 10k event, Thomas Wood completed the race in a time of 48:24, and Rob Hume in 48:56.
Down in Eastbourne, John Jameson took part in the Beachy Head Marathon. John chose a gruelling trail marathon, ran in the South Down National Park for his first marathon, and completed it in a fantastic time of 04:03:47; well done John!
Almost Athletes were also in action, both running and supporting, at the 39th edition of the Stroud half marathon. Dubbed one of the UK’s longest established half marathons, Stroud provided a fantastic setting for some PB’s and amazing running performances. Continuing with her fantastic running form, Hannah Brown achieved a huge PB of 02:00:47, shaving over 5 minutes off her half marathon time. There closes another busy weekend for the Almost Athletes!
